About Me
Gyorgy (George) Matrai is an experienced international businessman with an extensive knowledge of international banking and finance. Currently President of Limage Holding USA in San Ramon, California, Gyorgy Matrai participates in ventures around the globe using innovative financial techniques developed early in his career in Switzerland. Born in Hungary, Gyorgy Matrai was educated as a chemical engineer and also studied how to apply computers to biochemical processes and compounds. After teaching in Budapest for about 10 years, Gyorgy Matrai was asked in 1989 to research how to help Hungarian citizens acquire the capital needed to participate in the pending privatization of much of the country’s industry. As part of this research, Gyorgy Matrai became knowledgeable about international securities and banking laws, and he developed financial methods that could be used to solve problems in Hungary that were related to the lack of an established financial community after the breakdown of communism. Over the course of 1992, Gyorgy Matrai negotiated with the Republic of Hungary and the Heilongjiang Province in China via his company Autotrade Co. to help resolve a leftover trade balance between the two parties. Hungary was owed approximately $78 million from the Chinese province when the trade agreement ended and needed to recover the money is some convertible form. Gyorgy Matrai arranged to acquire the debt from Hungary in exchange for a promise to pay it over time in hard currency. At the same time, Gyorgy Matrai received an agreement form Heilongjiang Province, China, to allow his country to use the trade balance to purchase goods from 16 large Chinese exporters. Therefore Gyorgy Matrai arranged to import Chinese goods to Hungary, selling what he could in the country and then exporting the rest. The profit earned from the sales was paid to the Republic of Hungary. The arrangement benefited all parties and helped jump start Gyorgy Matrai's international financial career.
